Anxiety and alcohol use: what clinicians need to know

Posted Friday 25 June 2021 | Comorbidity Guidelines

Presenter: Associate Professor Lexine Stapinski, The University of Sydney’s Matilda Centre for Research in Mental Health and Substance Use.

Associate Professor Lexine Stapinski's research focuses on understanding the inter-relationship between anxiety and substance use disorders, and how we can optimise prevention, early intervention, and treatment approaches for these commonly co-occurring conditions.

By the end of the webinar, participants will have:

  • an understanding of typical patterns and issues relevant to the management of anxiety and alcohol use disorder comorbidity
  • an introduction to an integrated cognitive behaviour therapy program that improves outcomes by concurrently addressing anxiety, alcohol use and the connections between them
  • an awareness of the developmental links between anxiety and alcohol use, including strategies to prevent the development of alcohol use disorders among anxious young people.
